Description

Like many thrips, the body is elongated, thin, from black-brown to black. Head length 1.1-1.2 times the width. The eyes are dark brown, almost black, large, occupy from 1/3 to 1/2 of the length of the head. The 2nd segment of the antenna at the apical part is yellowish-brown, the 3rd is yellow, darkened in front of the apex, carries two sensilla, the 4th is at the base and yellowish on the sides, the 5th is only yellowish-brown at the extreme base. Wings with 5-8 additional cilia, transparent, darkened at the base. Fore tibia excluding base and margins yellow, fore tarsus yellow. The body length of the female is 1.5-2.2 mm, the male is 1.2-1.3 mm.

Distribution

It lives in Europe, Asia Minor, North Africa; Siberia, Kazakhstan, Central Asia.

Economic value

Strongly harms wheat, especially spring, to a lesser extent winter rye, barley.
