Biography

Born on October 25, 1907, in a peasant family in the village of Novomyshastovskaya of the Temryuk Department of the Kuban Region (now Krasnoarmeysky District of the Krasnodar Territory). Russian .

In 1909, the Petrov family moved to Kazakhstan . After finishing 7 classes, Alexey Petrov worked as an electrician.

From 1928 to 1934 he was in the military service, then he studied at the working school in the city of Tyumen . After graduation, he returned to the city of Akmolinsk , where he worked as an inspector oblon, a teacher of military affairs.

On the fronts of the Great Patriotic War since July 1941 . He participated in the battles for Stalingrad and liberated Belarus , for participation in which he was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky and the Order of the Red Banner, respectively [2] [3] .

On January 15, 1945, during the Vistula-Oder operation , the 102nd Guards Regiment under the command of A.V. Petrov as a result of a swift attack, captured a strong knot of resistance of the enemy in the village of Bzhoza . The next day, the regiment of Major Petrov's Guard defeated the Germans in the village of Levashuvka and, continuing the pursuit of scattered enemy units, on January 25, 1945, first broke into Oborniki , a small Polish town, turned by the Germans into a major stronghold and defensive center. Having met with strong resistance from the German units, the 102nd Guards Rifle Regiment fought a fierce battle for eight hours, overcoming a carefully fortified line of enemy defensive lines. Major Petrov under a strong rifle-machine-gun and artillery fire led the battle, being directly in the chain of attackers. Having knocked the Germans out of the city and not letting the enemy come to his senses, the regiment of Major Petrov was the first to cross the River Wart . This battle was the last for the commander of the 102nd Guards regiment, the guard Major Alexei Petrov, who died as a hero's death [4] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 24, 1945, Guard Major Petrov Alexey Vasilyevich was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal .

Memory

  • Guard Major Petrov was buried in the central square of the Polish city of Oborniki .
