History
The Stade du Hainaut was founded on May 6, 2008 with the aim of replacing the obsolete 1930 Nungesser built in Valenciennes . The construction cost amounted to € 75.9 million [1] . All expenses were borne by the city administration, which will own the rights to the stadium.
The stadium itself was built in July 2011 , and the new season 2011/2012 of the French Football Championship Valenciennes began in the new arena. The arena contains 2600 club seats and 16 VIP lodges; two huge 46 m² video screens have been erected here [2] .
The grand opening of the stadium took place on the evening of July 26, 2011 during a friendly meeting between the Valenciennes and Borussia Dortmund clubs. Borussia won 1-0, while Valenciennes fans set a record for stadium attendance at 22,778, which is also the maximum for the new arena [3] .
