Background
According to Bajor’s custom, her family name - Kira - is preceded by her personal name - Neris. That is, the full name of Kira should be pronounced just like that: Kira Neris. She has two brothers (Kira Reon and Kira Pohl), and her parents are Kira Taban and Kira Meru.
Kira Naris was born in 2343 in the Dahur region on the planet Bajor during the Cardassian occupation, which lasted 50 years. She was raised in a labor camp, and her family were members of the artists' de jar (caste). Young Kira Neris faced the same cruelty in life that many of her Bajor tribesmen faced: her father died the death of the brave, participating in resistance, while her mother, an artist, died of starvation in Singh's refugee camp when Kira was only 3 years. Being brought up in the camp, she played the Bajoran springball, and at the age of 4 at the camp school she was engaged in drawing for some time.
Fighting Youth
At the age of 12, Kira was recruited to serve in the Shakaar resistance cell, which was part of an underground movement that conducted subversive activities against the Cardassian occupation authorities, attacking the Cardassian armed forces and their representatives in order to free Bajor. A year later, the group finally accepted it into its ranks completely when the group leader, Shakaar, approved it, replacing the missing team member for a raid on a Cardassian collector. The earring she wears in her ear is made of skimmer metal by her cellmate Lopaza, after Kira killed the entire loader crew, frivolously trying to impress the group.
A year later, she helped temporarily free one of the labor camps and eventually learned how to fly on the obsolete Raider. She, along with the rest of the group, unarmed and hungry, suffered in the winter of 2360-2361 in caves in the mountains of Dahura. Her group hid from the Cardassians in the area for 10 years. For all this, Kira never sat in a Cardassian prison, but was once saved from a Cardassian interrogation center by her fellow inmates.
Her war for the liberation of Bajor included the same killings. She helped to plant a plasma bomb at Gal Pirek's house in Hathon and, already on board the Terok Nor station (DS9 after transferring to Starfleet command) in 2365, she killed a fellow collaborator. Even the final victory could not erase this last loss from her soul. It was in this mission that she first met Odo and Quark and was almost caught, but did not shed any light on this, returning to the station several years later already as the first officer of the station.
Although Kira has always possessed tactical and strategic abilities that make her work extremely productive, she is always self-contained, self-confident, devoid of imagination - all these are consequences of refugee life.
History
In the early episodes of the series, after the end of the Cardassian occupation of Bajor, Major Kira, thanks to his appointment to the Deep Space 9 station and his friendship with captain Benjamin Sisko , was involved in the restoration of Bajor and in the political life of the entire surrounding sector.
Initially, Kira was opposed to the presence of Starfleet employees at the station, feeling that the Bajorans did not want to have anything to do with the Federation. But after a long amount of time, her feelings changed, and she turned into one of the most ardent supporters of the accession of Bajor to the Federation.
Despite belonging to the militia of Bajor - the Bajor militia - Kira has always provided invaluable assistance to the Starfleet, especially during the war against the Dominion. When the Dominion captured the station at the beginning of the war, Kira remained on board the station as a liaison officer, which was permitted by the non-aggression pact concluded between Bajor and Dominion. Her position made it possible to organize resistance by including Quark and Jake Sisko in it. Intelligence carried out by Kira's team showed that the Dominion began work on mine clearance of the minefield, which did not allow the reinforcements of the Dominion from the Gamma Quadrant to come up. Kira's group also managed to sabotage the station’s weapons system, which allowed the Starfleet to recapture Deep Space 9 from the Dominion.
The experience gained by Kira in the Resistance also helped her in the service of the Starfleet. On instructions from the Starfleet, Cyrus, Odo, and Garak secretly infiltrated Cardassia occupied by the Dominion to help organize the Cardassian resistance movement to the Dominion. Their intelligence activities in Cardassia and the transmitted technical information allowed Starfleet engineers to create defensive systems that could withstand the weapons of the Brinn, the new allies of the Dominion. At the end of the war after the "disappearance" of Sisko - his departure to the Prophets - Cyrus assumes the duties of commander of the Deep Space 9 station. In 2374 she was promoted to colonel.
