First generation
Dio (AF-18/25). Honda launched the Dio scooter in January 1988. The model was very successful for its time, the design, ease of layout and reliability ensured high demand for the debutant. It was produced in two versions: with drum (AF-18) and disc (AF-25 SR - since 1990) front brake. There were also special versions of the Dio SP, which differed from the usual AF-18 with new bright colors and a different design of the instrument cluster. In 1992, the first generation Dio was removed from production.
Second generation
Super Dio (AF-27/28). Was born in 1990. In fact, it is a restyling of the previous Dio model, as evidenced by the similarity in design and the AF-18E engine that remained virtually unchanged. However, the new model has grown in size, has got a pocket under the wheel and began to be produced in a larger number of complete sets. The simplest - the base Super Dio - was equipped with drum brakes, the SR version (AF-28) - with a disk brake, the ZX - sports equipment, including a forced engine, a disk brake, a spoiler with a brake light instead of a trunk and a chrome muffler, XR Baja - version with enduro-slant, equipped with a disc brake, a wheel from a Honda XR250 Baja motorcycle along with optics, an instrument panel and a windscreen for hands. Also for the Japanese market were produced electric versions of this generation Dio with batteries instead of a gas tank and charging from the outlet. With the production of the second generation of the popular Dio was removed in 1996, but for some time this model was produced under the name Dio Fit and differed from the usual AF-27 completely redesigned plastic linings and optics.
Third Generation
Live Dio (AF-34/35). In 1994, the launch of the Honda Live Dio was launched. A completely new model was equipped with a new AF-34E engine with a horizontal cylinder, which made the floor of the saddle trunk even. The design of the linings changed drastically and was made in the “biodesign” fashionable for the 1990s, the front optics became “crystal”. In addition to the basic configuration, there were models ZX And SR (front disc brake), SR Combi Brake (combined brake system), ZX (sports version with front oil shock absorbers, disc brake, spoiler, more powerful engine, and since 1996 and on the six-part cast disks), Cesta (built into the front of the basket) and the ST version with ABS. In 1997, a small facelift was carried out, after which this model received a headlight of a new form. In 2001, the central locking system, protected by an anti-theft protective shutter, was installed, which allowed the trunk to be opened without removing the ignition key from the lock. It is worth noting that the most prestigious versions of the ZX were periodically released in special limited editions, the most famous of which are: a special edition for Honda's 50th anniversary (white and red colors, emblems on the facing and ignition key), a special issue dedicated to the BAR team -Honda F-1 (silver-red color, special logos on the facings) as well as special series with translucent plastic facings (three options - red, yellow and blue). In 2004, the Live Dio generation was discontinued.
Fourth generation
Smart Dio (AF-56/57/63). In 2001, Honda changed the development vector of the Dio model, releasing a new generation with the Smart prefix. The main difference from previous generations is the newest four-stroke two-valve engine with liquid cooling. The installation of a four-stroke engine was dictated by stricter environmental requirements; as a result, the new Dio has become weaker than its two-stroke predecessors (torque 4.6 N · m and power 5 HP. vs. 6.2 N · m and 5.4 HP. in Live Dio S (December 2001)), but at the same time, much more economical (fuel economy was up to 60% compared with the previous generation, and now it was possible to drive up to 75 km at a speed of 30 km / h on 1 liter of gasoline) and reliable (according to the manufacturer, Smart Dio is able to travel up to 100 thousand km without major repairs subject to timely maintenance). The installation of a more complex and, consequently, heavy engine led to the relief of the power structure of the scooter - the frame became aluminum. The layout ideology has remained the same - it was still a small, nimble city scooter with a voluminous pocket and trunk and a gas tank under the floor. The design corresponded to the spirit of the time: sharp edges appeared, the front and rear optics were “crystal”. There are three configurations: basic (AF56), DX (AF57) with a disk brake and Z4. Z4 was produced in two versions: the first is the same DX, but with a spoiler, alloy wheels and Z4 emblems; the second (designation AF63) appeared in 2004 and was equipped with a four-valve injection engine, oil shock absorbers, a spoiler, alloy wheels and a system that silences the engine at traffic lights and automatically initiates it when the gas is supplied. Currently, the Smart line is out of production.
Fifth generation
New Dio (AF62 / 68). The release of this generation model Dio was launched in October 2003. The location of the gas tank has changed: it is now located under the seat, like most scooters, and not in the floor. There are also only two complete sets: the usual Dio with drum brakes and the Dio Cesta with a built-in basket. AF61E engine produces 3.8 liters. with. and a torque of 3.7 Nm In 2007, this model was technically upgraded - it received a new frame and an engine (AF67E) with electronic injection FI (Fuel Injection) instead of a carburetor (becoming the AF68, respectively), the front fairing slightly modified, new body color options added. The release of this model was discontinued in 2012. Fuel consumption New Dio about 1.25 liters per 100 km at a speed of 30 km / h.
Sixth Generation
Dio Deluxe 100 (JF31). On July 18, 2014, Honda introduced a new generation - the Dio 110. The scooter changed the class, became a two-seater and is equipped with a four-stroke JF31E engine with a volume of 110 cm 3 and a power of 8.4 liters. with. Consumption 1.8 liters. at 30km / h Engine air cooling. Large 14-inch wheels provide comfort on any road.
