“The Army of Myn Bal” ( Kazakh. Zhauzhurek weңbal ; translated as “The Brave”) is a film by the Kazakh director Akan Sataev , which tells the story of the legend of the Kazakh-Dzungar war . The premiere of the picture took place on December 16, 2011. The film was released in Kazakhstan on May 3, 2012 [1] .

Content
Story
The action of the film takes place in the first half of the 18th century - in the crucial era of Kazakh history, when in a bloody war with the Dzungars the unity of the Kazakh people and heroism become a decisive force on the path to gaining freedom. According to the plot, in this fierce struggle, along with adults, young warriors led by the brave Sartai stand up to defend their native land. His legendary army, known as “Our Ball” (One Thousand Boys), enters into an unequal battle with the enemy and changes the course of the war. The decisive one in the film is the battle known in history as the “ Battle of Anracay ”.

The film was greeted with enthusiasm both at home and abroad. During the 65th Cannes Film Festival, Pierre Spengler, a British film producer, spoke of the film as follows: “I am very impressed with the quality of the film itself, the quality of the acting. Everything is at a high level - the filmmaking itself, and the epic scope, and tricks, as well as other elements. All this should attract the viewer. The more I watched “Myn Ball”, the more diligently I searched for an excuse for myself to go to Kazakhstan and shoot there myself ” [2] . The film gained particular popularity among young people. According to many viewers, this picture aroused their interest in the history of the Kazakh people, national culture and customs [3] .
