Commonwealth University ( Eng. Virginia Commonwealth University ) - State Research University in Richmond , Virginia , USA . It originated in 1968 as a result of the merger of the Richmond Professional Institute (founded in 1917) and the Virginia Medical College (established in 1854 on the basis of the Hampden-Sydney College of Medicine). [2] The Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1838, which is why this year is considered the official date of foundation of the university.
