Biography
Maria Zhao was born in 1883 in the village of Zhaojia, Hebei Province, China.
In the years 1899-1900. in China, the étuan boxer uprising took place, during which many Chinese Christians suffered. On July 28, 1900, Maria Zhao, along with her mother Maria Zhao Guo and sister Rosa Zhao, tried to hide from the persecution of the rebels in the well. Boxers were able to get their well and invited them to renounce Christianity. Maria Zhao, along with her relatives, remained faithful to her faith, for which the rebels took her to the cemetery, where they killed her.
Praise
Mary Zhao was beatified on April 17, 1955 by Pope Pius II and canonized on October 1, 2000 by Pope John Paul II along with a group of 120 Chinese martyrs .
