Ivan Kostyakov was born in the Sinyavino ulus (now the Ust-Abakan district of Khakassia ) on December 5, 1916. He graduated from a seven-year school and a cooperative school in Kansk . He worked in the consumer cooperation system, then transferred to the Askiz district newspaper “Udarnik”, and then to the regional newspaper “ Khizil aal ”. He participated in the Great Patriotic War . After the war, he began working in the propaganda and agitation department of the Khakass regional committee of the CPSU . He headed the Khakass book publishing house.
The first works of Kostyakov were published in the late 1930s. Kostyakova’s poetry is represented by the collections “The New Year Tree” ( Nachyl elkzy ), “New Steppe” ( Nahazy ), “Song of Happiness” ( Chaska yry ) and others. For children, he wrote collections of short stories “On the bestial paths” ( An choollaryncha ) and “My Friends” ( Minin Nanchylarym ). The story of Kostyakov's “Silk Belt” ( Chibek Khur ) about the war and love was widely known. Kostyakov translated many Russian folk songs, as well as songs of the Soviet era, into Khakass language.
