Before the revolution he served in the magistracy, during the revolution he was sentenced to death, but managed to justify himself. Under the Directoire, he published several republican brochures and the tragedy “The death of Jesus-Christ” ( La mort de Jésus-Christ ). During the Restoration and the July monarchy as a member of the Chamber of Deputies, he was one of the active members of the opposition, attacking the government and the Jesuits with equal zeal.
