Lilia chalcedony ( Latin: Lílium chalcedónicum ) is a species of monocotyledonous flowering plants that is part of the Liliaceae family. Included in the subgenus Martagon of the genus Lilium ( Lilium ).

Title
Lilium chalcedony was described by Carl Linnaeus in the book Species plantarum in 1753 , the conditional publication date of which is taken as the starting point of the botanical nomenclature . Earlier, in 1629 , John Parkinson described this plant under the name Lilium rubrum Byzantinum, five Martagon Constantinopolitanum .
Botanical Description
Perennial herb , reaching 0.6-1.2 m in height. The stalk is hard, green, with a purple tint, covered with whitish felt pubescence. The bulb is large, oblong, lilac, acutifoliate.
The leaves are numerous, sessile, linear-lanceolate, in the lower part of the plant up to 15 cm long, bracts are shorter.
Flowers with a smell, up to 10 cm in diameter, hanging, collected 3-8 or more in loose racemose inflorescences . Perianth lobes are thick, strongly bending backward, bright red-orange, warty at the base, sometimes covered with purple spots. Stamens are red, with a bright red duster.
The fruit is an egg-shaped capsule .
Distribution and use
Chalcedony lily in the wild grows in Greece and on the coast of the Ionian Islands , as well as in Asia Minor .
Several garden forms of chalcedony lily are known. Among them is a rare species of maculátum (also known as excélsum ), larger, with single spotted flowers. In május, the flowers are larger, in graécum , on the contrary, are smaller. Heldréichii blooms a few weeks earlier than the type variety.
