Biography
His parents divorced in 1947 , and the boy moved with his father from the American zone of occupation of Germany, in which Duisburg was located, to the Soviet one. After graduating from school, he worked for some time at the factory in Brandenburg , then entered the drama school, and soon got a job at the Berliner Ensemble theater. From 1956 he began to act in films and act on television of the GDR .
In 1976, he was among those East German artists who protested against the expulsion of singer Wolf Birman from the GDR. This led to a conflict with the authorities. Becoming a victim of the "ban on the profession," April 20, 1977 the actor left the GDR and settled in West Berlin .
In 1991, for his work was awarded the Ernst Lubich Prize .
