Biography
Born March 21, 1921. Russian
In the late 1920s, he moved with his family to the Leningrad Region , in the village of Toksovo , in the village of Audio .
From 1929 to 1936 he studied at the Toksov school. He later graduated from vocational school No. 3 at the Leningrad Metal Plant . Since 1939, he worked at the plant as a fitter in a mechanical assembly shop.
Since 1942, he participated in battles on the Leningrad Front as part of the 153rd Infantry Regiment of the 80th Division as a sniper.
In March 1942 he was seriously injured. After recovery, he fought on the Western , Voronezh , South-Western , Steppe fronts as part of the 143rd Guards Rifle Regiment of the 48th Guards Rifle Division, on the 2nd and 3rd Ukrainian Fronts as part of the 146th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 48th Guards Rifle Division as a scout. He served as commander of the reconnaissance unit, commander of a platoon of foot reconnaissance .
During the summer offensive battles under the leadership of Petrov and personally he himself captured more than 20 and exterminated up to 100 enemy soldiers and officers.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in 1943 for his courage, heroism in the fight against the German invaders, and guard Sergeant Petrov, Vasily Yakovlevich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal .
On November 25, 1944, while performing a combat mission near the town of Gumbinnen, the platoon commander of the 47th separate guards reconnaissance guard, junior lieutenant Vasily Petrov, was killed. At the time of his death, he was 23 years and 8 months old. He was buried in the city of Kaunas at a military cemetery on the Heroes Alley .
Since 2006, residents of the village of Toksovo and St. Petersburg have been advocating the creation of a park named after Hero of the Soviet Union V. Ya. Petrov in the village of Audio near the place where the house of the Petrov family was located.
