Biography
Born on April 25, 1914 . Russian . He graduated from the 8th grade of secondary school and Tambov Construction College. In 1933 - 1936 and in 1938 - 1941 he worked as a foreman, designer and topographer in construction organizations in Yoshkar-Ola , Stary Oskol , Kursk and Tambov . In 1936 - 1938 he served in the army.
On the fronts of the Great Patriotic War from June 1941 . Until October 1941, he fought in the North-Western Front , took part in defensive battles in the territory of Lithuania , Latvia , in the Pskov region. From October 1941 to March 1943 he was in Nazi captivity, and after escaping from the camp he lived for some time in a temporarily occupied territory. Since April 1943, he fought in Voronezh , the 1st and 2nd Ukrainian fronts as commander of a sapper platoon. He participated in the Battle of Kursk and the liberation of Ukraine .
Particularly distinguished when crossing the Dnieper . Together with his platoon, by the time the regiment was concentrated on the left bank of the Dnieper, he prepared a large number of boats, rafts and 3 ferries. On the night of September 24, 1943, regimental units were transferred to them, which captured a bridgehead in the area of the villages of Balyko-Shchuchinka and Kalisk (now the Kagarlyk district of the Kiev region of Ukraine).
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 23, 1943, for courage and heroism shown in battles with the German fascist invaders, Lieutenant Petrov Vasily Vasilyevich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 2017).
He participated in the liberation of Poland , Romania , Hungary , Czechoslovakia , defeating the enemy on the territory of Austria . He ended the war as the head of the military-technical supply of the 93rd Guards Rifle Division.
Since 1946, Senior Lieutenant Petrov is in reserve. He worked as an engineer in one of the construction organizations in Tambov, deputy manager of the Saratov regional office "Zagotzerno". He lived in the city of Saratov, worked in the regional department of bread products and feed mill industry.
Died July 31, 1997 . He was buried at the Elshansky cemetery in Saratov .
