Dubreylosaurus

Dubreilosaurus is a genus of carnivorous dinosaurs from the family of megalosaurs. Dubreilosaurus got its name in 2002 , after it was initially mistaken for a new kind of poquilopleuron , a large theropod close to a megalosaurus . More recent studies have shown that it is closer to eustreptopondil . The dubreylosaurus is shorter than the muzzle, the remaining distinguishing features are slight differences in the structure of their vertebrae and scapula. Although crests and horns were not found in this dinosaur, the only known specimen of the dubreylosaurus was a cub, and similar outgrowths could develop later. Like its relatives, the dubreylosaurus possessed short but strong three-fingered forelimbs. The remains of a dubreylosaurus were found in sedimentary rocks accumulating in mangrove swamps. This suggests that he hunted fish and other marine animals.

Name Etymology

This dinosaur got its generic name in honor of the Dubreuil family (Dubreuil, fr. Dubreuil ), which discovered the fossil of the Dubreuilosaurus in 1994 [1] .

Discovery History

The fossil remains of a dubreylosaurus were found in France [2] . The type species D. valesdunensis was originally assigned to the genus Poekilopleuron as P. valesdunensis . Ronan Allen in 2005 created a new independent genus called Dubreuillosaurus .

Description

According to estimates by paleontologists, the length of an adult dubreylosaurus was about 9 meters, a height of about 3 meters, and a weight of about 1.5 tons. Dubreilosaurus had an elongated skull, the length of which was 3 times greater than the height [3] .

Nutrition

Dubreilosaurus is a carnivorous dinosaur. In light of the discovery of the remains of a dubreylosaurus exclusively in coastal regions, it is assumed that the bulk of its diet was fish [1] .
