Models Renault 20 and Renault 30 were produced by the French company Renault in 1975-1984 and at that time were the most expensive and prestigious Renault models. . Technically they were identical, the difference was that the Renault 30 model was equipped only with V6 engines and the maximum configuration (outwardly it differed with 4 round headlights in front), and the Renault 20 was equipped only with in-line 4-cylinder engines and the configurations were poorer (externally the model differed in two rectangular headlights in front). In total, more than 145 thousand Renault 30 and 622 thousand Renault 20 were produced.

General Information
Introduced in March 1975, the Renault 30 TS was the first post-war Renault model with an engine with more than 4 cylinders. This was one of the first cars to use the 2664 cm³ PRV V6 engine, developed jointly with Peugeot and Volvo and also powered by Peugeot 604 and Volvo 264. The power of the unit was 130 liters. sec., which allowed to disperse the model to a maximum of 185 km / h.
The more affordable Renault 20 , presented at the 1975 Paris Motor Show (exactly 8 months after the Renault 30 TS), had the same body, differing externally only in headlights - two rectangular versus 4 round ones. It was equipped with a time-tested 4-cylinder engine with a volume of 1647 cm³, inherited from the Renault 16 TX model. Power - 90 liters. with. Better fuel economy allowed the use of a smaller tank - 60 liters instead of 67 for a 6-cylinder model. The rear brakes of the Renault 20 were drum, the rims were smaller, 13-inch, and there were three modifications - the base L, the more prestigious TL and the top-end GTL, which in general was identical to the Renault 30 TS. The R20 and R30 were essentially versions of the same model.
For their time, they were very advanced in terms of security, possessing crumpled zones in front and protection against side impact. Reliability issues accompanied models throughout their entire life cycle. It soon became clear that the outdated 90-horsepower engine from the predecessor model of the Renault 16 TX was too weak to equip it with the larger and heavier Renault 20. The engine was refined the next year after the start of production (power increased to 96 liters. c.), but this did not correct the situation radically, in addition, the price gap between the unacceptably low-powered Renault 20 and the overly expensive Renault 30 was huge, because to bring these models closer, the Renault 20 TS was introduced, equipped with a new 4-cylinder 2- 109 liter engine with. (which was also equipped with the Citroën CX and later the Peugeot 505 ), which was welcomed by buyers with great approval. The following year, the Renault 30 TX (a more luxurious version of the 30th model with a fuel injection engine) and the Renault 20 Diesel, equipped with a naturally aspirated diesel engine, were introduced.
In 1981, a 2.2-liter injection engine (modification of the Renault 20 TX) was added to the model line, followed by the Renault 30 Turbo Diesel. Production of the model in France was stopped in October 1983 to give way to the new generation of the E-class hatchback - the Renault 25.

Model Timeline
- March 1975 - Introduced Renault 30 TS, a large 5-door hatchback, available in only one configuration, TS, with a 2664 cm³ PRV V6 engine jointly developed by Peugeot , Renault and Volvo . A choice of a 4-speed manual gearbox or a 3-band “automatic”, the model was equipped with a power steering, four round headlights in front, power windows and a central lock.
- November 1975 - Presented Renault 20 in versions L, TL and GTL, equipped with a smaller 4-cylinder engine displacement of 1647 cm³ (90 hp) and a mechanical 4-speed gearbox. All three versions had two rectangular headlights in front (which differed from the Renault 30). Modification L had the most basic equipment and was even devoid of hubcaps on wheels. The TL had the best equipment, and the GTL in equipment was almost identical to the Renault 30 TS. An automatic transmission could be ordered for the R20 TL and R20 GTL versions.
- 1976 - The engine power of the 1647 cm³ Renault 20 model was raised to 96 liters. with.
- Late 1977 / early 1978 - Modification of the R20 L was removed from the lineup due to modest sales; her presence in the lineup was justified only by a low price. All models received a new style dashboard. Power Renault 30 TS fell from 130 to 125 liters. with. It was possible to order branded steel wheels with Michelin TRX tires.
- July 1977 - A modification of the Renault 20 TS is presented, equipped with a new 1995 cm³ engine (109 hp) and a 4-speed manual or 3-band automatic transmission to choose from. The equipment was basically the same as in the R20 GTL.
- October 1978 - A modification of the Renault 30 TX is introduced with a more powerful (144 hp) version of the 2664 cm³ V6 engine equipped with Bosch K-Jetronic injection, a 5-speed manual or 3-band automatic transmission, power windows in a circle, a velor interior and headrests front and rear.
- 1979 - All models received a rear fog lamp with a driver's side and seat belts for rear passengers. For the Renault 20 TS model, a 5-speed gearbox became available, and the Renault 30 TS received a more powerful engine (130 hp) and a pocket in the driver's sun visor.
- 1979 - A modification of the Renault 20 LS is introduced, technically identical to the R20 TS, but identical in equipment to the R20 TL.
- September 1979 - A modification of the Renault 20 Diesel (in TD and GTD versions) with a new diesel engine with a volume of 2068 cm³ capacity of 67 liters is presented. with., 5-speed gearbox, power steering.
- 1980 - Complete restyling of the interior, with a new front panel from Renault Fuego . For all gasoline models, it became possible to order an automatic transmission. The Renault 30 TS / TX versions received a chrome trim for the radiator grille.
- 1981 - All Renault 20 models received a dual-circuit brake system, the production of the R20 GTL was discontinued, and the R20 TL remained the only model with a 1.6-liter engine. Renault 30 TX received new bumpers.
- 1981 - Production of the Renault 30TS ceased.
- 1981 - There was a modification of 20 TX with a new 2.2 liter engine rated at 115 liters. with., also in the range of Renault 20 added a new 2-liter diesel engine with a capacity of 60 liters. with.
- 1982 - A modification of the Renault 30 Turbo D with a new 85-liter turbodiesel is introduced. with.
- 1983 - Discontinuation of the R20 and R30, their replacement Renault 25 .
