Division History
Formed in July 1914 from the frame of the 14th Infantry Division . It became part of the 7th Army of the Odessa Military District .
By 02/04/1915 63rd infantry. the division covered the area of the city of Prasnysh, acting as part of the 1st Army gene. Litvinova. As a result of the offensive undertaken here by the German troops (group Gen. Galvitsa: 1st res. Corps and corps of general Tsastrov) 02/10/1915 Prasnysh was surrounded by superior enemy forces and B [Arybin Aleksey Konstantinovich] appeared at the head of the 63rd combined detachment infantry. the division defending the city (4 battalions of the 249th infantry. Danube and 250th infantry. Baltic regiments with 16 guns). On the same day, Prasnysh was attacked and captured the southern part of the city. Despite the fierce resistance of Detachment B. (who twice rejected the offer of surrender), on the morning of 02/11/1915 the Germans completely took control of the city, and B. himself was captured after a hand-to-hand fight. In recognition of B.'s courage, the Germans in the Neisse camp returned his personal weapon (saber) to him.
Four infantry divisions of the Odessa district each formed a second priority. During the mobilization, these divisions formed the 7th Army of General Nikitin, they were called up to the front only in the fall and managed to acquire the necessary commissure and dexterity, which immediately affected their work ... In the VIII Corps, the 14th Division gave rise to the 63rd, which did not disgrace ancestors in the heavy November battles near Lodz. The Danes and Baltians with Colonel Barybin gained fame for the famous defense of Prasnysh. The division then fought in Galicia with Mackensen and in August died in Novogeorgievsk. She deserved a better fate.
