Tarn near Kokyure

Tarn originates in the Cévennes , on Mount Lauzer in the department of Loeser , below cuts the Koss plateau, composed of limestones , forming the Gorge du Tarn gorge up to 500 m deep. It reaches the plain in the lower reaches and flows into the Garonne near Castelsarrazen in the Tarn and Garonne departments . Above the city of Albi on Tarn is Sabo Falls. The height of the source is 1500 m above sea level.

The average water flow is about 140 m³ / s. Tarn is characterized by spring flood , in summer there are rain floods .

The Tarn River is known for its catastrophic floods . During the famous floods of 1930, the water level in Tarn in the Montauban area rose by 17 m, with a water flow rate of 7000 m³ / s. As a result of the flood, thousands of houses were destroyed, about 300 people were killed.

Economic Use

In the lower reaches the river is navigable. A number of hydroelectric power plants are built on the river.

The cities of Montauban , Albi , Millau and others are located on the river. The Millau viaduct - cable - stayed bridge , the highest transport bridge in the world [2] is thrown across Tarn.
