Biography
Ulrich Khan was born on November 5, 1955 in the city of Elbingerode , the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt . He began to actively engage in luge in the early 1970s, he was soon selected for the national team and, together with his brother Bernd, began to take part in various international starts, showing fairly good results. So, at the European Championship in 1973 in Königssee he won a silver medal, and a year later he won gold at the World Championships, having arrived first on the same track. In 1975 he replenished the medal collection with a bronze award from the European Championship in the Italian Valdaore.
Thanks to a series of successful performances, Khan was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , passed qualifications without problems, but in the end showed only the sixteenth result. At the 1978 European Championships in Hammarstrand, Sweden, he replenished his track record with another silver medal in the men's doubles program, two years later he was second again at the European Championships in Valdaor. I went to compete at the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid , I planned to compete for prizes here, but later I ended up in fourth place. The last major international tournament for him was the 1981 World Cup in Hammarstrand, where the German became the world champion for the second time in his career.
Competition in the national team at that time greatly increased, so soon Ulrich Khan decided to leave the sledding, giving way to the young German sleigh riders. Since 2007, he has been the manager of the bobsleigh track in Altenberg, married to Christina Scheiblich , Olympic champion in 1976 rowing.
