History
All four members of the group began their musical career one by one, being members of various underground hardcore groups of Chicago. One of the founders of Fall Out Boy - Pete Wentz, decided to create his own band, for which he drew his long-time acquaintance guitarist Joe Troman, with whom they had played in one of the bands before. The singer and guitarist of the group, Patrick Stump, worked in his father’s music store, which Joe often dropped in, who suggested that Patrick join the team that is starting his way. Later drummer Andy Hurley joined the band. The need for a drummer appeared after Patrick showed great talent for vocals, and he became the vocalist of the group, although before that he was the drummer of the group.
These four heirs of the glorious traditions of American pop-punk, united in 2001, have already played several concerts, but still could not come up with a suitable name. In such cases, you can always turn to the people. Which they did. At one of the concerts at the college, musicians asked their listeners how best to name the group. Someone from the audience shouted: "Fall Out Boy!". The band liked the name, although none of them had any idea where it came from. Perhaps it came from the animated series about the Simpsons family, where one of the heroes of the Radioactive Man comic was so called. More likely, the title is a reference to the famous Fallout video game series .
In 2001, the four recorded and released a three-song demo tape on their own, and in 2002 they found a label that agreed to release an album that combined several tracks Fall Out Boy and Project Rocket, the former drummer Andy Hurley. The musicians had no special illusions about themselves, but the effect of the first release, and especially of their bright concerts, exceeded expectations. When in early 2003 the team returned to the same label to record a new mini-album , it turned out that the situation had changed a lot in the past six months. After the appearance of the mini-album Fall Out Boy's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend, which received good reviews in the local press, Fall Out Boy had already left the category of dark horses, and managers of several record companies began actively courting the young team. The musicians entrusted the debut album to the Florida label Fueled by Ramen , founded by Vinnie Fiorello , the drummer of the punk band Less Than Jake .
In May 2003, a full-length album, Take This To Your Grave , appeared in Fall Out Boy's discography, which appeared in the top 10 independent sales rankings and became a weighty argument for major label Island Records , which had long ago laid eyes on the Chicago quartet, but as all did not dare to legitimize the relationship. The album "Take This to Your Grave" sounded pretty confident and aroused the sympathy of many critics. This strong collection of punk tunes convincingly combined romance and irony, tight guitar riffs and a parody of pop-cliches. The musicians have apparently already emerged from the influence of Green Day , whose music once inspired them to take on punk. Peter Wentz dubbed Fall Out Boy sound "softcore", referring to something between hardcore and pop punk. The many-month-long concert marathon, honestly worked out by the team, presented the new Chicago formation to the wide punk masses. The masses were satisfied with what they saw and heard.
In May 2004, the band unveiled the B-Side to My Tongue acoustic mini-disc My Heart Will Always B , which included a cover version of the song “Love Will Tear Us Apart” by the Joy Division . The release was notably popular in the punk community.
Finally, in May 2005, Fall Out Boy released their second studio album, From Under the Cork Tree , which owes its name to the children's book History of Ferdinand , Authored by Munroe Leaf . It was produced by Neil Evron, who was responsible for the sound of the group A New Found Glory . Hundreds of concerts worked out over two years and good promotions guaranteed the team the closest attention to its latest release, which in the first week sold 70,000 copies and was noted on the Billboard 200 , and later got the platinum status three times. The single " Sugar, We're Goin Down " brought Fall Out Boy to the piggy-box for the first one hundred percent hit, conquering the 8th line of the Billboard Hot 100 . The video clip, which actively rotated and won the MTV2 Award at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2005, played a significant role in this. The second single, “ Dance, Dance ” , is also slightly behind the charts. Even the Grammy organizers did not ignore the four, nominating them for the award in the nomination "Best New Artist".
The main event in the tour schedule Fall Out Boy in 2006 was a concert tour called “The Black Clouds and Underdogs Tour”. Having headed it as headliners, they selected several groups as the support group: The All-American Rejects , Hawthorne Heights , From First to Last , The Hush Sound and October Fall . Young teams took turns opening their performances in dozens of cities in North America and Europe.
Despite the very busy touring schedule of 2006, Fall Out Boy managed to find time to record a new album, the third in a row. The album, called Infinity on High, was released as early as February 2007. For production, a Babyface man orchestra was invited, specializing, however, mainly in rhythm and blues and pop artists, as well as rapper Jay-Z . In addition, guitar solos recorded Ryan Ross from Panic! At The Disco and Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory .
In an interview with the Billboard weekly , Patrick Stump noted that although the album uses the piano more actively than the former, the strings and brass , the musicians “tried not to get too carried away with this. After all, four guys just play in the center of these songs - drums, bass and two guitars. It’s just rock songs ... From song to song, the feelings completely change, but in the context they are all meaningful. They all have something in common, but in general there are many different voices, perspectives and styles. It would be dishonest if we tried to restrain any of these elements. ”
The singles “ This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race ” and “ Thnks fr th Mmrs ” instantly became hits, and the group went on another world tour [1] .
On October 17, 2008, the movie “ Sex Drive ” was released, in which Fall Out Boy took direct part ( cameo ).
On October 31, 2008, during a marathon interview, held in the Premiere studio in Los Angeles, the group set a world record for the number of interviews per day - 72 interviews per day, which entered the Guinness Book of Records [2] .
In December 2008, the world saw a new album with the original French name Folie à Deux , which means “Madness of Two”. Critics ambiguously reacted to this album, some [ who? ] took the side of “Fall Out Boy - opopseli,” while others [ who? ] that "they [FOB] just became more mature."
The beginning of 2009, the group spent in tour. Japan , Australia , Europe and all US states. In early summer, Fall Out Boy, due to numerous disputes and quarrels within the team, decided to take a break from their creative work. The group announced that it is going on a sabbatical.
In November 2009, the band announced the release of the first collection of the best songs, “Believers Never Die - Greatest Hits,” with two new songs. [3]
On February 4, 2013, the group announced the end of the break. During this time, the participants managed to participate in various projects, including solo. On May 6, 7, 2013, the band announced the release of their fifth album, entitled “ Save Rock and Roll, ” around the world. Later the release of the album was postponed to April 15th. After the reunion of the group, the series of the musical film The Young Blood Chronicles began to appear on each track from the Save Rock and Roll album, starting with the video for the song “ My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up) ”.
In the summer of 2014, a joint Fall Out Boy, Paramore and New Politics tour called Monumentour took place across all states of America.
In the fall of 2014, Fall Out Boy released the single " Centuries ", which quickly conquered the top of the various charts. The single "American Beauty / American Psycho" was later released. Together with the release of this single, the group announced the self-titled album, which was released in January 2015. The album gained tremendous success, received good responses in the press, and the singles from it became very popular. In particular, “Centuries” received multi-platinum status, and the single “Immortals” became the soundtrack to the animated film “ City of Heroes ”, which received an Oscar as the best animated film. Later, the group announced a summer tour with the rapper Wiz Khalifa “Boys of Zummer Tour”, which was held in the United States. In the fall of 2015, an American Beauty / American Psycho Tour tour to European countries took place in support of the new album.
Fall Out Boy and Missy Eliott recorded the track “ Ghostbusters (I'm Not Afraid) ” for the 2016 Ghostbusters movie.
In 2019, Lil peep and ILoveMakonnen together with Fall Out Boy released the song “I've Been Waiting” .
