It originates in the area of the San Juan mountain range, to the southeast of the city of Telluride and flows to the northwest. It flows through the cities of Placeville and Nukla and flows into the Dolores River in the west of Montrose County, about 24 km east of the border with the state of Utah . Average water consumption is about 17 m³ / s.
