In January 2012, he won an eliminator to fight for the title of champion of Great Britain and the British Commonwealth, against the Englishman, John McDermott (26-7) [1] .
Fight with Sam Saxton
The title at that time was held by Tyson Fury , whom Price won in amateurs. But Tyson refused to fight and released the title, referring to his contract with the television channel, which does not give him the opportunity to meet with Price [2] . Titles were declared vacant, and broke out between Price, and the former title holder of the UK, Sam Sexton . On May 19, 2012, a battle took place in which Price convincingly knocked out his compatriot, and won both titles, and rose high in the world boxing ratings [3] .
Fight Audley Harrison
In October, David Price in the first title defense of Britain and the British Commonwealth, entered the ring against the former holder of these titles, a former contender for the WBA champion and Olympic champion, Audley Harrison . Harrison was already 40 years old, but after refusing to meet with Price, Tyson Fury and David Haye’s higher plans, Audley was justly considered the only worthy representative of British boxing to defend titles. From the very beginning of the fight, Price took the initiative and acted as the first number. In the first half of the round, David spent the exact left jab, which is very shocked Harrison. Audley staggered and walked away to the ropes. Price rushed to finish him off and brought several powerful hooks to the target, after which Harrison swam and the judge, seeing this, intervened and stopped the fight. Rolling off the ropes, Harrison fell on the floor of the ring, and for a long time could not come to his senses. Immediately after the victory over Harrison, Price’s next opponent was determined, he was a famous British boxer, Matt Sketlon , who knocked out his opponent in the same boxing show and rose to the ratings of the British Boxing Council [4] [5] [6] [7] .
Fight with Matt Skelton
November 30, 2012 Price entered the ring with a 45-year-old compatriot Matt Skelton . The fight began with an active attack of Skelton, which all fell in defense of Price. In the middle of the first round, Price conducted several precise heavy single shots. Some of Skelton’s attacks were also successful, but to a greater degree David blocked them. The second round began with the viscous manner of both boxers. Great abundance of clinches and sliding shots. At the end of the second minute, Price spent two precise series of blows, but Skelton raised his hands, demonstrating his lack of shock. At the end of the second round, Price conducted a successful attack, a combined attack on the head and the body, and Skelton fell on the floor of the ring. The referee counted to ten, but Matt only got on his knees. At the same time, Skelton's team threw out a towel, and the referee stopped the bout [8] [9] .
Fight with Tony Thompson I
February 23, 2013, David Price in his hometown of Liverpool entered the ring with a well-known rival, an American, Tony Thompson . Thompson was a two-time contender for the world title, and both times he lost to Vladimir Klitschko , and if the first fight was competitive, then in the second fight the 40-year-old veteran showed nothing, and in the fight with Price, he was a full underdog; was 7 to 1. Tony Topson, who already turned 41 this year, also entered the ring with a fair margin, and did not expect much from him.
In the first round there were no notable attacks, but Price successfully threw Thompson with a pair of two, and quite convincingly attacked, Thompson acted economically and tried not to miss more than to inflict. The first round came with the advantage of David. In the corner of the Briton, the coach said that David would stick to the plan, and Price claimed that he had already seen the American and behaved confidently. In the second round, Price went on the attack and squeezed Thompson in the corner, but Tony did not lose his head, entered the clinch, behaved wary, and controlled the situation. By the end of the round, Price tried again to strike the attacking combination, but Tony dodged, struck a light side strike with his left, and then with the right side hit successfully into the area of Price's left ear. David reeled and fell. Price for the first time in a professional career was on the floor of the ring. He managed to get up, but staggered and stood uncertainly. Hall silent, the referee stopped the fight. 41-year-old Thompson made a sensational upset and knocked out the rising star of world boxing [10] .
After the defeat of Price, his promoter Frank Malone was taken to hospital with a heart attack, and later he was brought to the post-match press conference [11] .
Fight with Tony Thompson II
After losing the first duel, Price decided to take advantage of the clause in the rematch contract. The battle took place on July 6, 2013. After the sleepy starting minutes of the battle at the end of the 2nd round, a strike on the temporal region Price sent Thompson to a heavy knockdown, but did not have time to finish. Starting from the 3rd, Tony increasingly often reached the opponent’s head and torso in the middle / near distance of an opponent, and in the end of the 4th, he was physically shaken by physically exhausted David. The outcome was not long in coming: in the 5th three-minute Thompson, using the opponent's extremely leaky defense, caught him with a protracted combination and pushed him into the corner of the ring. The referee counted Price a standing knock-out, which gradually turned into a technical knockout - the Briton was unable to continue the fight.
Saurland Event Contract
At the end of 2013, David Price signed a contract with the famous German promoter, the company Saurland Event. The first fight under the auspices of the new company held January 25, 2014 in Germany, knocking out in the 1st round of the Hungarian jornimen, Istvan Ruzhinsky.
Fight with Ondrei Pala
April 12 In a heavy fight, Price knocked out in the third round of the Czech puncher, Ondrej Palu . In the first round, Pala managed to send David Price to a knockdown, but failed to build on his success, as a result the Briton won ahead of schedule.
On June 7, 2014, Price won the Ukrainian boxer, Yaroslav Zavorotny. Zavorotny became the first boxer who lasted the entire distance against Price in the last four years, and did not lose by knockout.
Fight Ercan Teper
On July 17, 2015, Erkan Tepar fought with British boxer David Price for the vacant European Champion Title in EBU . Erkan finished the fight in the second round by knocking out David Price and won the title. [12]
December 23, 2015 it became known that Teper failed the doping test after the fight with Briton David Price and this fight was declared invalid, and Teper received a year of disqualification from the German Boxing Federation and two years from the European Boxing Union [13] . Later, the initial result of the battle was returned, but Teperu was disqualified.
Fight with Christian Hammer
February 4, 2017 Price held a fight with the German boxer of Romanian origin Christian Hammer . At stake was the WBO European Title , owned by Hammer.
Price dominated at the beginning of the battle, keeping the opponent inferior in growth at a distance. However, Hummer had good moments in the first rounds. In the fifth round, during the exchange of blows, Price sent a rival to the knockdown with a precise right uppercut to the chin. But by the middle of the battle, the Briton’s endurance was running out, and already in the sixth round, Hummer seized the initiative, holding the opponent in the corner and inflicting many accurate hits. Price was saved from the trouble by the gong, but the situation repeated itself in the next round, when Hummer brought down a hail of unanswered blows on his opponent, which forced the referee to stop the fight. Hammer won by technical knockout and retained the title [14] [15] .
