Biography

Vasily Bystrov was born on June 6, 1922 in the village of Zagainovo (now the Talmensky District of the Altai Territory ) into a peasant family. He graduated from the Barnaul Agricultural College. In January 1941, he was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army and sent to study at the aviation school. After the start of World War II, in connection with the difficult situation on the front, cadet Bystrov was sent for retraining and became an artilleryman. From September 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, was the gunner, then the commander of an anti-tank gun. He took part in the Battle of Stalingrad . During the battle for the Dnieper was injured, but did not leave the battlefield, for which he was awarded the medal "For Courage" . After being discharged from the hospital, Bystrov was enrolled in military intelligence, repeatedly went to the enemy rear, obtained valuable information and "tongues". By January 1945, the guard sergeant Vasily Bystrov commanded the reconnaissance unit of the 236th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 74th Guards Rifle Division of the 8th Guards Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . Distinguished during the liberation of Poznan [1] .

January 30, 1945 Bystrov led a group of scouts under the cover of night darkness snuck into the rear of the German troops and attacked them. In battle, 6 German soldiers were captured and several more were killed personally by Bystrov. On February 2 , participating in the storming of the house, turned into a fortified defense point, the first of the attackers broke into there and destroyed 9 German soldiers and 2 machine guns with automatic fire and grenades. In total, in the battles for Poznan, Bystrov destroyed more than 30 enemy soldiers and officers, 4 machine guns and 17 German soldiers and officers were taken prisoner by him [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 6, 1945, for exemplary performance of command assignments and for showing courage and heroism in battles against German invaders, the guard foreman Vasily Bystrov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 6850 [1] .

In 1945 he joined the VKP (b) . In 1946, Bystrov was demobilized, after which he returned to his homeland, worked as an instructor of the Talmensky District Executive Committee of the VKP (b). In 1950, he graduated from the Barnaul Pedagogical Institute , after which, at the insistence of the doctors, he moved to Crimea , where he spent the next 10 years as a high school director. In 1961, Bystrov returned to the Altai Territory, where he was an inspector of the regional department of public education, then a teacher in one of the Barnaul schools. He died on November 15, 1993 [1] .

He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War , 1st degree and a number of medals. In the village of Talmenka installed a bust of Bystrov [1] .
