Biography

Spiridon Wangeli was born on June 14, 1932 in the village of Greenauti, Beltsky district of Bessarabia (now the Riscani district of Moldova) into a peasant family. When the boy was 12 years old, his mother died.

In 1952 he graduated from the philological faculty of Chisinau State Pedagogical Institute. Jonah Creanga .

After graduation, he served in the Soviet army, then worked as a teacher in a rural school.

Years of work at school coincided with the first literary experiments. The works of the young writer were often and readily printed in periodicals.

In 1955, the stories of Vangelius were included in the collection “Young Voices”.

The first book, In the Land of Butterflies, was published in 1962 .

In 1966, the fairy tale "The Adventures of Gugutse" was published, which brought the writer well-deserved fame. In 1970, she was awarded the Second All-Union Prize in Children's Literature. [one]

From Moldavian to Russian, the works of Vangeli were translated by Jacob Akim , Valentin Berestov , Yuri Koval , Valery Medvedev .

Later Wangeli books were published in German, English, Japanese, Bulgarian, Armenian.

Spiridon Wangeli translated the works of S. Marshak, B. Zakhoder, V. Berestov, A. Lindgren, Yu. Tuvim, N. Guillen into Moldovan. [one]

June 15, 2007 at the National Children's Library. Jonah Creanga, Minister of Education and Youth Viktor Zvirkun, congratulated Spiridon Wangeli on his 75th birthday and handed a certificate of honor. [2]
