Biography
Nikolai Bykov was born on May 20, 1907 in the village of Pechersk (now the Syzran district of the Samara region ) into a peasant family. He graduated from seven classes of high school, worked in an asphalt plant. In 1929, Bykov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1931 he joined the CPSU (b) . In 1935, Bykov graduated from the Omsk Infantry School , in 1938 - training courses for officers. Since May 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By January 1945, Guard Colonel Nikolai Bykov commanded the 215th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 77th Guards Rifle Division of the 69th Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . Distinguished during the liberation of Poland [1] .
The Bykov regiment, advancing from the Pulawski bridgehead , broke through a powerful German defense, destroying a large amount of enemy manpower, 9 tanks and assault guns, 155 vehicles, 37 machine guns and mortars , 25 artillery pieces, from January 14 to February 3, 1945 captured about 700 enemy soldiers and officers [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, Colonel Nikolai Bykov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
After the war, Bykov continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1948 he graduated from the Shot courses, in 1955 - the Higher academic courses at the Military Academy of the General Staff . From December 10, 1955 to November 4, 1957, he commanded the 9th Infantry Division (from June 1957 - the 80th Motorized Rifle Division) of the North Caucasus Military District (Maykop) [2] . In January 1959, Bykov was sacked. He lived and worked in Stavropol . Died July 3, 1982 [1] . He was buried in the Sazhevoy cemetery of Stavropol.
He was awarded two Orders of Lenin, four Orders of the Red Banner , the Order of Alexander Nevsky , two Orders of the Red Star , as well as a number of medals [1] .
