Tursunzade ( Tajik. Tursunzoda ) is a city in the Gissar Valley , the administrative center of the Tursunzade district of the Republic of Tajikistan . Until February 17, 1978 - Regar [2] .

It is named after Mirzo Tursunzade , a Tajik Soviet poet, a prominent statesman and public figure. The main enterprise in the area is the Tajik Aluminum Plant .

In the area there is an Orthodox church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin . In Tursunzade, there is a Training Center for the US Armed Forces , for the training of military personnel of the RT Armed Forces [3] .

Population

In 2013, the district overcame the mark of 50,000 people. In 2019, the city's population was 53,700 people [1] .

Tursunzade's population is mainly Tajiks and ethnic Uzbeks .

In 2006, a program was developed to relocate 1,000 families from the flood-hit Kulyab district to the areas adjacent to the city of Tursunzade [4] .
