Fruits - multi-seeded capsules , opening (4) 6 (8) teeth. Seeds 0.3-0.5 mm in diameter, tuberous without appendages.

Geographical distribution

The genus contains more than 270 species [5] , distributed mainly in cold and moderately warm regions of the Northern Hemisphere . In the tropical zone is found only in mountainous areas, usually at high altitudes.

Areas of the greatest species richness of gerbils - Front and Central Asia ; A significant number of species are found in Eastern Siberia .

In the flora of Russia there are about 10 species, in the Central Russian region - 6 [6] .
