It is part of the Andreevsky rural settlement (from January 1, 2006 to April 8, 2009 it was the center of the Ostrovsky rural settlement) [1] [2] , from the point of view of the administrative-territorial division - the center of the Ostrovsky village council.
The distance to the district center of Lipin Bora by road is 39 km, to the center of the municipality of Andreevskaya village in a straight line - 8 km. The nearest settlements are Bolshaya Chagotma , Yeskino , Malaya Chagotma .
According to the 2002 census, the population is 123 people (62 men, 61 women). The predominant nationality is Russian (99%) [3] .
In the village of Ostrov there are architectural monuments a five-wall barn [4] , a four-wall barn [5] , a house of Vinogradova [6] , a house of Yu. D. Yakovleva [7] , a house of I. K. Kuznetsova [8] .
