Description

Chernihiv literary-memorial museum-reserve was founded in 1934 by the younger brother of the writer Thomas Kotsyubinsky (1870-1956).

During World War II, the museum’s exhibits were evacuated to Ufa . After the liberation of Chernigov, the museum resumed work. After the death of the first director of the museum for more than twenty years, the museum was headed by the youngest daughter of the writer Irina Kotsyubinskaya.

Currently, the museum consists of a modern literary exposition, a memorial house of the writer and a garden - a green exposition.

The main part of the museum is the memorial apartment of Mikhail Kotsyubinsky. In this house the writer settled with his family in 1898 and lived here the last 15 years of his life.

In 1958, three rooms in the memorial exposition: the bedroom, dining room and living room with part of the writer's study were open to visitors. A large number of things surrounding Mikhail Kotsyubinsky during his life, was carefully preserved. Among them: the manuscripts of the author, photos, magazines, books Kotsyubinsky and about him, family relics, personal belongings of the writer, telling about his interests and tastes.

The living room of the writer was also a study. A desk with a writing instrument, a library and furniture create an idea of the work of the writer. In two bookcases there is a memorial library of the writer, with more than 1,500 books. Among them are interesting publications of his works, books with autographs of Maxim Gorky , V. Korolenko , I. Franko , Panas Mirny , essays on the life and work of M. Kotsyubinsky.

In the exposition of his former dining room are products of folk artists, collected by the writer. In 1983, the memorial exhibition was expanded: two more rooms and a kitchen were added. In the room of the writer's daughters and his mother there are some interesting souvenirs that Kotsyubinsky brought to the children from his trips. In the kitchen a lot of household utensils, typological for the end of XIX - beg. XX centuries.

Mikhail Kotsyubinsky and his wife were buried not far from their home, on the picturesque Boldina Gora , where the writer loved to rest with his family during his lifetime.
