DescriptionRed-billed oatmeal 16 cm long and weighing about 20 g is very similar to garden oatmeal ( Emberiza hortulana ). However, her head is a bright bluish-gray color. The throat and “beard” are brown (not yellow like that of a garden), the beak is reddish pink. The plumage of the female is more dull and with more stripes than the male and may differ from the female garden oatmeal in brown throat and “beard”. Young birds are very difficult to distinguish from young birds of garden oatmeal, they are distinguished from young birds of mountain oatmeal by a reddish beak.
Singing is like garden oatmeal singing, however, it is shorter and sounds like “du du du du du”.
DistributionRed-billed oatmeal loves rocky slopes with freestanding bushes and trees, as well as semi-deserts. This is a migratory bird; in Southeastern Europe, the species is vagrant. It nests throughout Greece , on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey and Cyprus , on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea in Western Asia . He winters in Sudan in Africa. Less commonly, it is found on the Mediterranean coast of Western Europe, sometimes individual individuals reach Helgoland .
