Albert Henry Mansell ( Eng. Albert Henry Munsell ; January 6, 1858 - June 28, 1918 ) is an American artist and art teacher. Known as the inventor of the color system named after him.

Biography
Mansell was born in Boston , Massachusetts . He studied and subsequently worked at the Massachusetts School of Normal Arts, now known as the Massachusetts College of Art and Design . He died near the city of Brookline .
His artworks in the genres of sea landscape and portrait are noteworthy.
Mansell's color system was one of the first attempts to numerically describe color. The artist wrote three books on the subject:
- A Color Notation (1905),
- Atlas of the Munsell Color System (1915),
- A Grammar of Color: Arrangements of Strathmore Papers in a Variety of Printed Color Combinations According to The Munsell Color System (1921, posthumous).
The Mansell system has gained international recognition and has become the basis for the creation of new systems, including CIELAB . In 1917, Mansell founded the Munsell Color Company .
The artist’s son, A.I. O. Mansell, continued the work of popularizing the system after the death of his father.
