Gold Medal named after P.N. Lebedev

The P. N. Lebedev gold medal has been awarded by the Russian Academy of Sciences (until 1991 - the USSR Academy of Sciences ) since 1972 for outstanding work in physics. It bears the name of the Russian physicist Pyotr Nikolaevich Lebedev .

History

The medal was established at the suggestion of the USSR Academy of Sciences by Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR of August 25, 1969 No. 684. Decree of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR of September 4, 1969 No. 769 "On gold medals and prizes named after outstanding scientists awarded by the USSR Academy of Sciences" was established that the medal is awarded every three years by an expert commission subordinate to the physical department of the Academy of Sciences [1] .
