The state-owned enterprise Latvijas Pasts was founded on January 2, 1992. Two years later, President Guntis Ulmanis issued the Law on Mail (Pasta likums), in connection with which the Latvijas Pasts was renamed a state institution. Later, on March 11, 1997, the president announced amendments to the law, due to which the state institution Latvijas Pasts was renamed the non-profit organization State Joint Stock Company Latvijas Pasts.

On April 30, 2004, the Public Utilities Commission issued Latvijas Pasts a universal license for postal services. Latvijas pasts is the first postal service provider in Latvia to receive a license that meets the requirements of the European Union . On May 1, 2004, in connection with Latvia's accession to the EU, amendments to the law on mail came into force, which provided for a gradual reduction of the monopoly . July 15, 2004, celebrated the completion of the foundation of the future complex for sorting mail. A capsule with a message for future generations was walled up in the foundation. On November 1, 2004, the non-profit organization State Joint Stock Company Latvijas Paststika was re-registered in the Commercial Register, becoming the state joint stock company Latvijas Pasts. September 28, 2006 in the Marupe parish near the Riga airport opened a postal sorting complex.

In October 2015, USPS , the postal operator of the United States of America, stopped exchanging tracking data with a number of postal operators, including Latvijas Pasts, charging a fee for providing delivery data. [four]

At the end of 2015, Latvijas Pasts signs an agreement with the Universal Postal Union on joining an additional tracking system, which from January 1, 2016 will provide customers with information on tracking mailings for an additional fee.

Compared to the previous year, in 2017, the company's turnover grew by 20%, but profit decreased by 2.6 times. The number of employees is reduced: in 2010 the company had 6149 employees, by the end of 2016 - only 4200. [3]
