Biography

Karl Christian Weber was born on June 28, 1886 in the city of Bexbach. In 1898, he was one of the first students to enter the new seminary who founded the Verbists in St. Wendel. After graduation, he worked at the monastic seminary of the Holy Archangel Gabriel in the Austrian city of Mödling . On September 7, 1910, Carl Christian Weber took eternal monastic vows and was ordained a priest on September 29.

In 1911, he went on a mission to China. During the First World War he worked as a nurse in Qingdao. In 1919 he was deported by the Chinese authorities from the country. In 1928, he returned to China, where he worked as head priest in one of the Catholic churches of the Yangu diocese .

After the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War in 1937, Karl Christian Weber was appointed Holy See to be the ordinator of the Apostolic Vicariate of Ichoufu (Linyi) and was ordained bishop on October 16, 1938 in the Cathedral of Qingdao by the German Bishop, Apostolic Vicar of the Apostolic Vicariate of Tsar Vaigain . On April 11, 1946, the Holy See transformed the apostolic vicar Ichoufu into the diocese of Linyi and Karl Christian Weber became the first bishop of this diocese.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Carl Christian Weber began to be persecuted by the communist authorities. In 1951 he was arrested and spent two years in prison. In 1953 he was expelled from the country. Through Hong Kong and the Philippines, he returned to Germany, where he began to live in the monastic house of the Verbists in St. Wendel, from where he managed his diocese.

On November 15, 1970, Carl Christian Weber died of a stroke .
