Life and work
L. von Koenig was born into an aristocratic Prussian family. His father was a cavalry general, his mother was a nee Baroness von Kramm. He studied painting and sculpture, first in Hamburg, then at the Berlin Academy of Art and at the Julian Academy of Paris. Later he lives and works in Saarbrücken and Kassel, after which he returns to Berlin. In 1896 he exhibited his works for the first time - at the Great Berlin Art Exposition. Along with Max Slefogt , Max Lieberman and Lovis Corint , L. von Koenig is one of the most important representatives of the artistic direction of the Berlin Secession . The artist studied painting (primarily impressionism) at the Academies of Fine Arts in Paris and Berlin. He was also engaged in teaching, leading the class of masters at the school at the Berlin Museum of Applied Art. He was a master of portraiture.
The artist's brushes belong to the portraits of E. Barlach , E. Nolde , K. Kolwitz , G. Hauptmann , as well as J. Goebbels (1935). A significant number of canvases by L. Fon Koenig can be seen in the Art Museums of Braunschweig and Dusseldorf.
