Biography
Dzhansi Kimonko was born in the family of a Udege hunter in the village of Gvasiugi (now the Lazo district of the Khabarovsk Territory ) in December 1905. He became the first of the Udege who received a systematic education (in 1928 he studied at the Khabarovsk technical school of the peoples of the North).
He was a member of the partisan movement, one of the active organizers of the first Udege collective farm “Shock hunter”.
In 1932, he participated as a conductor in an expeditionary unit to liquidate insurgent units in the upper reaches of the Sukpai and Bikin rivers. For distinction he was awarded with registered weapons and a certificate of honor.
In 1934 he was sent to study at the Leningrad Institute of the Peoples of the North .
In 1936, he wrote his first short story, “Bata,” which later became part of the novel “The Glow Over the Forests.”
In 1936 - transferred to the central courses of Soviet construction. After graduation, he returned to Gvasyugi, began to work as chairman of the village council.
He passed the Great Patriotic War, participated in military operations against Japan in August 1945. After the war he returned to the post of chairman of the village council, where he worked until 1949.
He died on a hunt by the Katen River, in a battle with a wounded bear. Buried in with. Gvasyugi, at the local cemetery [1] [2] .
In 1950, his second story “Where Sukpay Runs” (published in Russian by the Far Eastern writer Yulia Shestakova ) was published posthumously, which tells about the life of the Udege people before and after the revolution in the form of a family chronicle.
Kimonko is also the author of a number of verses in Udege, some of which have been translated into Russian and published in separate books.
