Formula 1 season 1997

The 48th season of Formula 1 consisted of 17 grand prix and took place from March 9 to October 26, 1997 . The world champion was Jacques Villeneuve , the Williams-Renault team won the Design Cup. Michael Schumacher was deprived of all the points he scored in the season for trying to get Villeneuve out of the fight in Jerez. However, the race protocols and the standings of the Cup of Designers (where the Williams team won) remained unchanged.

Team Changes

  1. Mild Seven Benetton Renault: Alexander Wurz replaced Gerhard Berger from the Canadian Grand Prix at the British Grand Prix due to the illness of the latter.
  2. Prost Gauloises Blondes: Jarno Trulli replaced with the French Grand Prix at the Austrian Grand Prix Olivier Panis, who, as a result of the accident at the Canadian Grand Prix, received fractures of both legs.
  3. Red Bull Sauber Petronas: at the end of the Monaco Grand Prix, Nicola Larini was fired, and Gianni Morbidelli was invited in his place, who, in turn, was replaced by Norberto Fontana at the French, British and European Grand Prix.
  4. Minardi Team: after the Canadian Grand Prix, Jarno Trulli was invited to play in the Prost team, and Tarso Marquez took his place.
  5. Team MasterCard Lola Ford, after two stages, withdrew from the championship.
