These primates are catemeral, which means that they do not have a predefined schedule of sleep and eating. In the afternoon, mainly in the early morning and evening, they are active, their degree of activity at night depends on the season and phase of the moon. In the rainy season, they are more active at night than during the drought period, and with a relatively full or full moon, their degree of activity also increases. These are arboreal animals that are held in the middle and upper crown of trees.
They live in groups of 2 to 15 (usually from 7 to 10) animals; the groups consist of approximately the same number of males and females and their common offspring. The group is managed by a dominant female. The area of the site, which may overlap with the territory of another group, is from 5 to 6 hectares.
Black lemur feeds mainly on ripe fruits, along with it also feeds on flowers, leaves, mushrooms and sometimes small animals such as insects and millipedes. Nutrition varies depending on the season; in the dry period, nectar plays an important role.
Mating takes place in April or May. At the end of the 125-day pregnancy period, the female gives birth during the period from late August to early October more often than one cub. First, the baby clings to the belly of the mother, later he rides on her back. At the age of 5 to 6 months, he is weaned from his mother. At the age of about 2 years, he becomes sexually mature.
