Geography
Located 11 km south-east of the city of Pilsen , on the Uslava river, at an altitude of 343 m above sea level. The city is located on the railway going from Plze to České Budějovice .
History
The first written mention of the city (then it was called simply Plzen) dates back to the year 976. Later the city became an important center on the trade route from Prague to Bavaria, which until the end of the XIII century remained the most important in the Czech Republic. In 1295, when King Wenceslas II laid nearby Novi-Pilsen (modern Pilsen), Stari-Pilzenec fell into disrepair. Until 2007, the city was part of the Pilsen-South region .
