The main enterprises are the Arkulsky shipbuilding and repair plant, the Arkulsky section of the Vyatka River Shipping Company LLC. Located on the banks of the Vyatka River , flooded in the spring.

It was founded at the beginning of the 20th century by shipowners Bulychovs. The prototype is described by Maxim Gorky in the work " Egor Bulychov and others ."

The status of an urban-type settlement since 1932.

Most of the able-bodied population, especially males, work outside the Kirov region at the enterprises of the Russian river fleet.
