Biography

Ivan Gavrilovich Pyatykhin was born October 12 (25), 1904 in the village Popasnaya of the Kupyansky district of the Kharkov province of the Russian Empire (now the village of Popasnoe, Izyumsky district, Kharkov region of Ukraine ) in a working class family. Russian He graduated from high school number 41 in Kharkov .

In the ranks of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army since 1922. He served in the cavalry , commanded a cavalry platoon in the 36th Trans-Baikal Rifle Division, then in the 5th separate Kuban cavalry brigade. In June 1929, I. G. Pyatykhin was transferred to the Workers 'and Peasants' Air Fleet . After an internship in the specialty, pilot-observer Ivan Gavrilovich was sent as an observer pilot to the 25th separate air squad of the Air Force by the Special Far Eastern Army . In the second half of 1929, he took part in the armed conflict on the Sino-Eastern Railway as part of the 25th separate aviation unit.

In 1930, I.G. Pyatykhin graduated from the 3rd military aviation school for pilots and flight officers named after K.E. Voroshilov in Orenburg . He continued his service in the Far East as part of the 26th separate light bomber aviation squadron. In March 1932, he was appointed assistant chief of staff, then chief of staff of the 69th separate reconnaissance aviation unit. In the spring of 1934, Ivan Gavrilovich graduated from the Khabarovsk Military Aviation School of Pilots and in March was appointed commander of the 2nd separate aviation detachment. Since January 1935, he already commands the 35th cruising aviation squadron of the 18th heavy bomber brigade.

After graduating from the Air Force Higher Tactical School in Lipetsk in 1937, Major I.G. Pyatykhin was sent to the Leningrad Military District and was appointed to the post of commander of the 58th High-Speed ​​Bomber Regiment of the 2nd Mixed Aviation Division on November 10, 1937. Since September 9, 1938, Ivan Gavrilovich commanded the 15th Heavy Bomber Aviation Brigade, which at the beginning of the Winter War was transformed into the 15th High Speed ​​Bomber Aviation Brigade.

In the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940, Colonel I. G. Pyatykhin participated from the first days. During the conduct of hostilities, his brigade, which was part of the Air Force of the 13th Army of the North-Western Front , made 1704 combat sorties, having spent 7136 hours in the air. As a result of brigade raids on Vyborg , Kexholm ( Priozersk ), Sortavala and a military base on the island of Valaam, the enemy suffered significant damage. Ivan Gavrilovich repeatedly personally led the brigade into battle, having completed 25 sorties during the war. On April 7, 1940, Colonel Pyatykhin Ivan Gavrilovich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

After the end of the Winter War, Ivan Gavrilovich from April to June 1940 commanded the Air Force of the 14th Army of the Leningrad Military District . On June 4, 1940 he was awarded the rank of Major General , after which he was transferred to the Baltic Special Military District , where he took command of the 1st Combined Aviation Division , and then the 4th Combined Aviation Division . In March 1941, he led the 75th Mixed Aviation Division .

In the first hours of the war, the material base of the division, commanded by Major General Pyatykhin, was practically destroyed. Ivan Gavrilovich was recalled from the North-Western Front and was appointed Air Force Commander, first Orlovsky , and since August 1941, the South Ural Military Districts. In July 1942, Major General I. G. Pyatykhin participated in the formation of the 15th Air Army and was appointed its commander on July 22, 1942.

The 15th Air Army was formed on July 29, 1942 as part of the Bryansk Front . It included the 286th fighter , 225th assault and 284th bomber aviation divisions and three separate aviation regiments. In battles with the Nazi invaders, army units participated on August 10, 1942. On the first day of the battle, they attacked the enemy in the area of ​​the settlements of Ivanovka, Ilyinovka and Spasskoye. On the same day, army reconnaissance discovered more than 100 Yu-88 and Me-109 at the Kursk airfield, half of which were destroyed on the ground as a result of the subsequent raid of a small group of 7 Il-2 and 15 LaGG-3 . In a few days, the army completed 1240 sorties, including reconnaissance - 126, bombing - 362, assault - 134, to cover troops - 325 and to escort - 293. Pilots destroyed 80 tanks and 225 vehicles. In 43 air battles 49 enemy aircraft shot down [1] .

Subsequently, the 15th Air Army supported the troops of the Bryansk Front in defensive battles near Voronezh , participated in the liquidation of the German bridgehead on the left bank of the Don . In the winter of 1943, units of the 15th Air Army took part in the Voronezh-Kastornen operation , largely determining its success. The commander of the 13th Army of the Bryansk Front, Lieutenant General N.P. Pukhov praised the actions of the 286th night bomber division, and the fighter pilots and attack aircraft of the 15th Air Army, which took part in the battles to liberate Kastornoye on January 27-28, 1943 , for the courage and bravery shown in air battles and attack, gratitude was declared to the Military Council of the Bryansk Front.

In May 1943, Ivan Gavrilovich was transferred to the post of deputy commander of the 1st Air Army and took part in the Smolensk operation of the Western Front . Major General I. Pyatykhin, Major General I. Pyatykhin, was awarded the Order of Kutuzov of the 2nd degree for his skillful leadership of units in the Smolensk and Roslavl directions, for the successes achieved and the liberation of the cities of Smolensk and Roslavl .

In November 1943, Ivan Gavrilovich was appointed commander of the Air Force of the Kharkov Military District . May 11, 1944 he was awarded the rank of lieutenant general of aviation. From March to July 1946, he served as commander of the Air Force of the Kiev Military District , and from July 1946 he commanded the Air Force of the Arkhangelsk Military District . In May 1947, Lieutenant General I.G. Pyatykhin was transferred to the Turkestan Military District and was appointed assistant commander of the 6th Air Army combatant unit. In this position, Ivan Gavrilovich served until his transfer to the reserve in October 1948.

After leaving the army, I. G. Pyatykhin lived in the hero city of Moscow . Ivan Gavrilovich died on May 22, 1971. He was buried in Moscow at the Vvedensky cemetery .
