For the first time, two BRM riders entered the race, but due to problems with the engine valves, both of them left the race. Also, problems with the engine occurred at the local racer Louis Chiron, because of which he also did not start. Claiming a Ferrari 500 race (this car was built already four years before, it also belonged to the Formula 2 class) Scarlatti lagged even behind the BRM by as much as 19 seconds and 25 times from the pole position and did not get to the start.
Moss started from the middle of the first row, took the lead in the first corner, after which he never lost to anyone. Fangio, on the contrary, faced many problems. First, on the second lap, he drove into bales of hay, while Shell and Musso, who were trying to go round him, flew out and left the race. At lap 32 in the harbor, Fangio crashed into a wall and bent the rear wheel. After repairing the wheel in the boxes, however, he did not go out on the track again, instead transferring his car to the previously retired Castellotti (he finished one step away from the podium). At lap 54, Collins, who by that time was in second place, drove into the pits, where he transferred control to Fangio. Returning to the track third, by the 70th lap, the Argentine was able to get ahead of Bera in the fight for second place, but the gap from Moss was already 47 seconds. But then, when on the 86th lap Moss circumvented Perdiza on the lap when the brakes were blocked and collision of fireballs could not be avoided. Due to damage to the car, the Briton was forced to slow down, and at the end of the distance, Fangio quickly reduced the gap, taking two seconds from the circle. However, he did not have enough time and Moss won with an advantage of six seconds.
