In November 2007, Skywest Airlines began making direct flights from Kalgoorlie to Melbourne three times a week, but due to a lack of passengers, one flight per week returned to the schedule. In 2009, the airport took 234 thousand passengers. In early 2010, Skywest was again represented by passengers. The QantasLink group of airlines also began flights between Kalgoorlie and Adelaide due to the lack of flights between Goldfields Esperance and the eastern states of Australia . The airport largely meets the needs of the mining boom, which is celebrated in the region. The airport is also the center of the Goldfields-Esperance region, which provides charter flights and flight training, as well as the Royal Flying Doctors Service, which uses Kalgoorlie due to the lack of medical services in the region and the need to transport critically ill patients from Kalgoorlie to Perth .
Kalgoorlie Airport consists of one terminal, which has recently been updated. Airport passes operate two airlines. Skywest uses Kalgoorl for a stopover on the way to Melbourne. The airport was also used by Ansett Australia before the company went bankrupt.
