Bursa ( tour. Bursa , or Prusa Greek. Προύσα ) is a large city in the north-west of Anatolia , the fourth largest in Turkey after Istanbul , Ankara and Izmir and the administrative center of the same name sludge (region).

Population
According to the 2000 census, the city’s population reached 1,194,687 people, mostly Turks . Up to the beginning of the 20th century, the Greek name Prusa ( Greek Προύσα , Prussa), as well as Brussa, dominated; in Turkish, the city is also called Yesil Bursa ( Yeşil Bursa - “Green Bursa”).
In 1912, the following people lived in the city and its surroundings:
Turks - 72,993 people
Greeks - 21,850 people.
Armenians - 14,584 people.
Jews - 2 548 people. [2]
History
From 395 to 1326 the city belonged to the Byzantine Empire , in 1326, after the defeat of the Byzantines and successful for the Turkish siege of the city of Bursa passes the Ottoman Empire .
In 1326-1365 - the capital of the young Ottoman state.
The city was heavily damaged by earthquakes on February 28 and April 11, 1855, as well as from a terrible fire [3] .
During the second Greek-Turkish war of 1919-1922, the city was taken by the Greek troops in the summer of 1920, returned to Turkey at the end of 1922.
Attractions
The main attractions of the city are the ski resorts on Mount Uludag , the Green Mosque , the Green Mausoleum (Yesil Turbe), the Ulu-Jami Mosque , as well as green squares and gardens scattered throughout the city.
The only Christian church in the city, restored in 2002–2004 by four Christian denominations, should be liberated in February 2015, at the request of the city authorities [4] .

Transportation
In 2002, the city opened the metro . There is a line of the so-called “nostalgic tram”; a modern tram network is being built. Due to the close proximity of Istanbul, for flights to other countries, residents of Bursa use Istanbul airports - Ataturk International Airport and Sabiha Gokcen Airport .
Education
Bursa has two state and one private universities. Founded in 1975, Uludag University is the oldest institution of higher education in the city. In this institution, which until 1982 was called the “University of Bursa”, more than 47,000 students are educated.
Sports
The local football club " Bursaspor " is the Champion of Turkey 2009/10, performs at the stadium "Timsah Arena" , which is built in the form of a crocodile [5] .
