Golden-bellied Herb Parrot

The Golden-bellied grassed parakeet [1] , or the orange-bellied grassed budgie [2] ( lat. Neophema chrysogaster ) is a bird of the parrot family.

Appearance

Body length about 20 cm. The color of the plumage is green. Blue forehead with blue bordering. The front area is yellowish. Abdomen and chest are olive-bog. The underbone and bottom of the abdomen are yellow; on the abdomen below, a scarlet-orange spot. The bend of the wing is purple. The beak is gray. The iris is brown. Paws are gray. The female is paler. The forehead is blue. The spot on the abdomen is less and less pronounced. Some females have a white stripe on the inside of the wing. In males it is always absent.

Distribution

It lives in the south-west of Tasmania ; winter in the south and southeast of New South Wales , in Victoria , on King Island .

Lifestyle

Inhabit coastal zones with low vegetation, meadows , swamps, swamps , lagoons with low trees, are found in sunflower fields.

Reproduction

Nests are arranged in November-December in the hollows of eucalyptus trees. In clutch 4-6 eggs . Hatching lasts 21 days, at 38 days of age, young leave the nest.

Threats and security

Very rare. In the early 1990s, in the wild, there were about 200 individuals. In Australia, protected by law.
