History of coat of arms
The first mentions of the village of Chistoye Pole appeared in the annals at the end of the 17th - beginning of the 18th century .
In 1781, by the decree of Catherine II, the village of Chistoye Pole received the status of the county town Chistopol of the Kazan governorship and the city's coat of arms was approved.
The coat of arms of Chistopol was compiled in the Department of Gerolds under the Senate under the direction of the Herald Master , Acting State Councilor A. A. Volkov.
The emblem of the city was approved by the Emperor on October 18, 1781 by Empress Catherine II, along with other emblems of the cities of Kazan governorship (PSZ, 1781, Law No. 15260) [2] [3]
A true description of the coat of arms of the city of Chistopol read:
"Golden, branded quarters in the gold field, in the sign that in the new city a great trade is made by everybody ."
At the top of the shield is the emblem of the Kazan governorship : “The serpent is black, under the crown of Kazan gold, the wings are red, the field is white.”

In 1994, a badge with a modified coat of arms of Chistopol of the Soviet period was issued. In general, the new composition repeated the coat of arms of 1967, but in the free part the coat of arms of Tatarstan was placed, and the color scheme of the dial pattern of clocks and grain ears was changed. (The coat of arms was not officially approved in this form).
In the post-Soviet period, decisions to cancel the coat of arms of Chistopol in 1967, as well as to revive or restore the historical coat of arms of the city as an official symbol of Chistopol, were not made by the city authorities. Therefore, de jure , we can assume that the official emblem of Chistopol is currently the emblem, approved in 1967.
On January 24, 2007, by decision No. 13/3 of the Council of the Chistopolsky Municipal District, the coat of arms of the Chistopolsky Municipal District was approved.
The historical coat of arms of the county town of Chistopol (1781) was taken as the basis of the coat of arms of the Chistopolsky municipal district.
