Biography

Sergei Bufetov was born in 1915 in a village Konduki (now - Uzlovsky district of the Tula region ) in a peasant family. He graduated from seven classes of the school in 1929 , worked on the collective farm . Having moved to Moscow , he worked as a turner at one of the factories. In 1935 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1938, he graduated from junior lieutenant courses. He took part in the Soviet-Finnish war. Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts. In 1942 he joined the CPSU (b) . By June 1944, Captain Sergey Bufetov commanded the division of the 96th artillery regiment of the 90th infantry division of the 21st Army of the Leningrad Front . He distinguished himself during the breakthrough of the Finnish defense on the Karelian Isthmus [1] .

During the period from June 10 to June 15, 1944, the Bufetov’s division destroyed an enemy pillbox , 2 observation posts, 4 machine guns , 2 batteries, several enemy soldiers and officers. On June 15, 1944, replacing the out-of-service commander of a rifle battalion , he successfully led his military operations. June 22, 1944 was seriously injured and died of wounds. He was buried in the village of Ushakovo [1] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 18, 1944, Captain Sergei Bufetov was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin , Red Banner , World War 1 degree, Red Star [1] .
