Mawudzu

Culture Mavuzu is an archaeological culture that existed on the territory of Malawi around 1200-1750. n er Named for the archaeological monument of the same name.

Monuments of this culture are found mainly on the banks of the Shire River, less often in mountainous areas. Over time, the culture spread to the entire southern part of Malawi, but in any case, most of the monuments were located near major water sources. Findings of Indian glass beads indicate trade with the east coast of Africa. There is evidence of the use of copper.

It is assumed that this culture was associated with the migration of native Nyanj (Chev) speakers who arrived in Malawi around 1150. The ceramics of the Mavuzu culture are completely different from the ceramics of the former Nkopa and Kapeni cultures that existed earlier in this territory.
