Biography
Fedor Burtsev was born on June 27, 1923 in the village of Kazaki (now the Kimovsk District of the Tula Region ). Since 1932 he lived in Moscow . In 1940, Burtsev graduated from the Lenin Aeroclub. In January 1941 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In the same year he graduated from the military aviation school of pilots in Borisoglebsk , after which until 1942 he was an instructor pilot there. In 1943 - 1944 he took part in the Great Patriotic War, participated in the battles in the Bryansk , the 1st Ukrainian and the 3rd Belorussian fronts. During the war he made 57 combat missions on fighters La-5 and La-7 , took part in 17 air battles, shot down 3 enemy aircraft . Until 1948, he was an instructor pilot at the Higher Officer School of Air Combat in Lyubertsy , and in this position he participated in the testing of the first Soviet jet fighters MiG-9 and Yak-15 . In 1950 he graduated from the school of test pilots, after which until 1980 he was a test pilot of the Gromov Flight Research Institute [1] .
He took part in the tests of fighters " I-370 ", " MiG-15 ", " MiG-17 ", " MiG-19 ", " E-4 ", " E-5 ", " E-6 ", " MiG 21 , flying laboratories Tu-4LL , Tu-16LL , aircraft Il-18 , Tu-104 , Tu-124 , Yak-25 . Together with Sultan Amet-Khan and Sergey Anokhin, Burtsev carried out tests of an analogue of a KS projectile aircraft , for which in 1953 he was awarded the Stalin Prize of the 2nd degree [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 22, 1966, Colonel Fyodor Burtsev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal No. 11266 for "courage and heroism shown in testing aviation equipment" number 1 266 [1] .
Since 1974, Burtsev was the head of the test pilot school. In 1980 he retired. He lived in the city of Zhukovsky, Moscow region , since 2001 - in Moscow.
He died on May 4, 2003 . Buried at the Danilovsky cemetery of Moscow [2]
In addition to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union and the Order of Lenin, he was also awarded the Order of the October Revolution (March 25, 1974), two Orders of the Red Banner (September 20, 1947, February 3, 1953), the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree (March 11, 1985), and three Orders of Red Stars (07/10/1944, 2.08.1944, 12/30/1956), as well as a number of medals [1] . Honored Test Pilot of the USSR ( 1964 ). Stalin Prize 2 nd degree (1953).
