Biography
He graduated from the historical and philological faculty of Kharkov University (1910), taught at Kharkov and other universities.
Since 1917 he has been working as an extraordinary professor at the Faculty of History and Philology of Perm University . Headed the subject commission (department) of the methodology and methodology of the language [3]
In 1921 he returned to Kharkov University for scientific and pedagogical activities. [four]
Since 1944 in Kiev became the director of the Institute of Linguistics. A. A. Potebni, Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1944–1961), also headed the department of the Ukrainian language and the department of Slavic philology at Kiev University (1944–1947).
The author of the popular textbook Introduction to Linguistics (1953). He contributed to the reconstruction of the Slavic accent system and the description of the accent systems of a number of Slavic languages, paving the way for subsequent researchers ( V. M. Illich-Svitych , V. A. Dybo , A. A. Zaliznyak , etc.), in whose works it was recreated an integral picture of the evolution of the Slavic stress. He also studied the history of the Ukrainian language and, along with V.V. Vinogradov , the evolution of the vocabulary and grammar of the Russian language throughout the 19th century.
In honor of Leonid Bulakhovsky in Kiev named street .
